Prescribed Fire

Fire is a very cost effective and beneficial management tool - when used properly. Proper use requires knowledge of the ecosystem being managed, fire behavior and many years of experience. BioLogic has a long and safe history of using fire as a management tool in all habitat types and in urban and rural areas. We teach prescribed fire classes and typically conduct 30 to 40 burns per year.

Brush and Tree Clearing

There are more acres of forest in Wisconsin now than 100 years ago. Unfortunately, many of these acres are prairie, oak savanna and wetland that have been invaded by box elder, elm, honeysuckle, buckthorn and other species that eliminate native plants and animals, kill oak trees and alter ecosystem functions. Removing these unwanted and ecologically damaging trees and shrubs provides habitat for grassland birds and plants, invigorates the remaining trees, facilitates using fire as a management tool and is an integral part of nearly all prairie and oak savanna management and restoration.

All work is done by experienced, licensed, certified and insured personnel. Removal can be done year-round, except during spring sap flow. Winter is an excellent time for removing trees and brush because soil disturbance is minimized when the ground is frozen or snow covered.
